Nov 13, 2024
The awardee is selected by the Gauss Commission, established by the Class of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Priority is given to scientists who have excelled in the disciplines represented by Gauss, such as astronomy, geophysics, mathematics and physics.
The Gauss Chair offers renowned foreign scientists the opportunity to occupy, as guests of the Academy, for a time, the chair that once belonged to Carl Friedrich Gauss. This chair was established on the occasion of the centenary of the death of the famous mathematician, who was director of the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Göttingen from 1807 until his death in 1855.
