The MAPTHE research group has presented its early breast cancer detection device.

The Matrix Analysis and Discrete Potential Theory group (MAPTHE) presents MARIA, a pioneering prototype in the medical field.

The Matrix Analysis and Discrete Potential Theory research group (MAPTHE) has presented the device they have developed at various symposiums and conferences. The device, named MARIA, is a pioneering medical prototype designed to radically transform the early detection of breast cancer and to complement traditional mammograms. The device features a flexible tissue membrane that allows the identification of tumor anomalies through electrodes that detect electrical conductivity using an innovative algorithm. It is therefore a non-invasive system, radiation-free, and easy to use.

The events where it has been presented are:
1.- Business Forum – research groups at EEBE, on May 8, from 11:30 to 13:30.
2.- Research Beer at EEBE, on March 18, 2026.
3.- Participation in the Science for Industry (S4i) 2026 fair at the Generalitat de Catalunya stand, selected by UPC (January 28–29, 2026).

The research team is made up of Ángeles Carmona, Ana María Cortés, Andrés M. Encinas, María José Jiménez, Enric Monsó, and Inti Toalombo, affiliated with the Barcelona East School of Engineering (EEBE) at UPC, and Álvaro Samperio, from the Department of Mathematics at CUNEF University in Madrid.
