Flatness, tangent systems and flat outputs
Departament de Matemàtica Aplicada i Telemàtica, Campus Nord UPC, edifici C3, aula 005, 15:30
Abstract: This seminar deals with the problem of flatness in a nonlinear multi input (m inputs) system. In the framework of differential algebra, the tangent system is used in order to find out the last flat output when m-1 flat outputs have been guessed. The quotient of modules has appeared to be a cornerstone in this procedure. An application to the vertical take off and landing (VTOL) aircraft will be shown.

Dynamical adaptive backstepping control with application to the boost converter
Campus Nord, edifici C3, aula 005, 17:00
Abstract: Usually adaptive control schemes for nonlinear have been characterized by restrictive assumptions, concerned with the location of the unknown parameters and the required kind of nonlinearities, which limit their applicability in practical situations. These restrictions have been overcome by a new regulation and tracking scheme, named backstepping, which is applicable to a broad class of feedback linearizable nonlinear systems. The adaptive version of this new scheme, developed in recent years, allows the systematic design of a class of adaptive controllers for uncertain nonlinear systems.
This adaptive backstepping technique is a recursive procedure which links at each step a change of state coordinates, an update law for the uncertain parameters and a virtual control law for stabilizing a sub-system with a known Lyapunov function. It provides some advantageous features: global regulation and tracking properties for systems transformable into the parametric-strict feedback form, eliminates the drawback of overparametrization, matching conditions are not required to be satisfied, and constrained classes of nonlinearities are not imposed.
Our Symbolic Algebra Backstepping Toolbox BACKDSMC implements both the new DAB algorithm and a combined DAB-Sliding Mode Control algorithm. The technique is implemented using the MATLAB platform which incorporates the necessary symbolic algebra routines and a simulation package. It has been programmed to allow non-experts without any specialist knowledge regarding backstepping to design and simulate nonlinear DAB control systems in a straightforward.
PWM tracking control of the boost convertor, with a single parameter, will be described. The PWM controller is obtained via a sliding mode approach. Very precise tracking is obtained incorporating the Fossas-Biel Fourier tracking function technique.
